Established in 1981, Nordnorsk Filmsenter AS (NNFS) is the nation's oldest regional film centre, now located in Tromsø. NNFS is a funding body and facilitator for filmmaking in Northern Norway. We give grants earmarked for development and production of short films and documentaries and are involved in 3-5 international co-productions per year. We run workshops for professionals, and have the last years been hosting one of the sessions for the documentary development program ESoDoc.
During the Tromso International Film Festival in January, we arrange the NORTH Pitch-Below Zero in cooperation with Norwegian and European partners. We select 12 documentary projects on topics related to the Arctic or Antarctic for
- a producer meet producer set-up
- a two-day workshop
- a pitch with international decision makers.
For the 2021 edition, we the call for projects opened early September 2020 and the final deadline for applications is November 29th.
You will find further information about the pitch later this year.
Simple steps for international co-production in Northern Norway
If you want to co-produce and apply for financing from Nordnorsk Filmsenter AS you need a producer/co-producer in the region.
We give priority to projects where
- The producer is located in the region (Nordland, Troms and Finnmark)
- The project has artistic input from the region (script writer, director, producer)
- The project involves other film workers from the region
The main target group for our activities is the professional part of the film industry in the three northernmost counties, Nordland, Troms and Finnmark. We also have a responsibility for talent development, and support workshops for young talents between 12 and 25 years.
